Soundproofing - Mass loaded Vinyl Industrial Residential
Soundproofing - Mass loaded Vinyl Industrial Residential
Wholesale MLV residential/commercial loaded vinyl soundproofing is a specialty developed
MLV layer loaded vinyl sound barrier product offering superior soundproofing. Mass barrier damper sheet offers STC Ratings up to 37, It is a low cost material 1/8" $1.10 per sq ft. used for a variety of marine and land based room soundproofing. The drawings below shows
MLV barrier installed as a suspended mass loaded barrier. This typical application would improve transmission loss between
Residential, commercial office, Home Theaters adjoining room spaces.
The combination of the damping and stiffness properties of MLV vinyl sound barrier gives it excellent performance as a combined layer and damper when applied to partition panels and lightweight structural bulkheads, reducing room transmission of both airborne and structure Borne noise attenuation. Application direct to panels is best done with pre-applied pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backed up be minimal fasteners or staples. Ideal product for sound studio, garage, basement and recording studio and much more.

Tolerances are 0 +/- 1/8" for width.
There are several methods to soundproof a room with Mass loaded vinyl sound barrier;
Pre Construction using MLV vinyl and rock wool or Quiet zone batt as illustrated in the graphic below, place
rockwool between the 2 X 4's then place Mass vinyl barrier over the studs,
finally placing a layer of sheet rock as the final layer. STC values listed in
illustrations below. Can be used for, ceilings, walls & floors. One deviation of this method is; using resilient channel.
Post Construction you would need to place furring strips double thick
16" on center, then place 1" Rockwool in-between the furring strips then place
MLV vinyl - over the studs, finally placing a layer of sheet rock as the
final layer.
Rockwool is made of slag, which is a recycled steel product, and rock,
a trap rock mined in Texas...those are the only raw materials in rockwool
insulation. we use "coke" which is a recycled material from coal. it is used to
make the heat hotter in the manufacturing process, in order to save energy...rockwool
is the safest insulation on the market today...it also has one of the best
thermal insulating properties as well as a superior sound control while not
supporting mold or mildew. all while not having to add any chemicals...many
other insulation products on the market today are either all chemical, foams, or
have chemicals added to them to keep them fire retardant, cellulose...

E.2.3 Coefficient of absorption. All materials absorb some sound, and the
percentage of sound is measured (in laboratory tests) as a coefficient of
absorption. Coefficients of absorption range in value from close to 0 (no
absorption) to nearly 1.0 (100 % efficient); these coefficients vary as a
function of frequency. Materials that are most efficient at absorbing sound
include soft porous "fuzzy» materials such as glass fiber, mineral wool fiber,
carpet, curtains, acoustic tile, and other specialty materials. Materials that
depend on their porosity to absorb sound should not be painted which will clog
their pores, and thus degrade their acoustical performance.
